Wet wet wet

Another soggy one for Kempsey. Right on the heels of the last soggy one. There is no hope for my slowly mouldering verandah sofa.
We are flooded in on the south side. The beautiful paddocks are now a massive lake. And I mean massive. Kempsey CBD was evacuated yesterday. The founding fathers thought it a good idea to pop the town on a nice flat bit of land on a bend in the river, enclosing the town with water on three sides. So they are well and truly under.
Mum and I ventured out early yesterday morning and got caught up in the adventure! ATMs were all down so we abandoned our food shopping trip and had to battle down the Pacific highway as paddocks broke their banks and spilled over the road.
Fortunately we are out of town on the highest part of the local area. And on that we are on the highest part. And our house is a meter of the ground. I roughly reckon we are 40m up. Safe as unflooded houses.
We do lose power a lot. Which sets of the fire alarm. Which sets off the dog. So we discontent the alarm from the mains power. Which does not stop the alarm from going off. So we remove the battery. Which does not stop the alarm from going off. Alarm now resides within throwing distance of the front window. May it rest in pieces.
